Assisted Living in Shavano Park, TX

Assisted-Living-in-Shavano-Park-TXMost of today’s assisted living facilities are much different than they were just 30 or 40 years ago. Many people have misconceptions about modern assisted living communities and think of them in terms of nursing homes from the 1940s or 1950s. Nothing could be further from the truth and one of the most significant differences in today’s facilities has to do with their exercise options, entertainment rooms, and restaurant facilities.

In the days of old, many assisted living communities consisted of a basic dining facility that resembled a cafeteria. Their tables were generally basic with plastic chairs, a buffet style eatery, or something akin to what a person might find in a high school.

It wasn’t appealing and the food wasn’t exactly the best in the world. Today, though, many assisted living facilities have subscribed to a much improved situation when it comes to dining facilities. They understand the value of food and why it can be so important emotionally and physically for elderly residents to be able to sit down and enjoy a meal.

That’s why there are 4 and 5 star style restaurants in many of these facilities all across the United States. Their dining facilities resemble upscale restaurants. Booths and comfortable tables and chairs and a gorgeous layout are common in many of them.

These restaurants often have full menus that residents can choose from for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If an elderly individual prefers a nice New York strip steak, they might very well be able to find it on the menu. If chicken cacciatore is their preference, that might also be part of the menu.

Many menu items can consist of appetizers, salads, Italian, American, Chinese, and much more. It’s a good idea to sit down with a representative from a particular assisted living facility that the elderly individual is interested in and go over exactly what the dining facilities are like and what they have to offer.

Assuming the community has a dining facility that resembles a full restaurant, it’s a good idea for the senior to take advantage of this situation. Not only will it offer them high quality food with great nutritional benefits, they will also have an opportunity to sit down with other seniors, meet new people, share wonderful conversation, and get out of their rooms for an hour or more at meal time.

The dining facilities in assisted living today are fantastic. October is Eat Better, Eat Together Month and when a senior discovers these restaurant facilities, it’s plenty of reason to take full advantage of them.
