Assisted Living in Hollywood Park, TX – Prevent Disaster by Understanding and Practicing Emergency Procedures

When Donald moved into assisted living, he wasn’t too keen on the idea to begin with. His family encouraged him to consider this option, and actually after the first couple weeks, he was glad that he did.

One thing that he didn’t focus on that he should have was emergency procedures at the facility. Most assisted living facilities will discuss their emergency procedures with their new residents as well as their family members so that they comply with local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.

However, when you are moving into a new facility, and you are facing a high level of stress and anxiety already, you may not be paying attention to the smaller details, especially with regard to emergencies. After all, who really thinks that they’re going to be involved in an emergency situation?

That is why it is best to take some time after you are settled into an assisted living facility to sit down and go over emergency procedures. If you have family members who are in contact with you on a regular basis, they should also understand what those emergency procedures happen to be.

Donald didn’t do this and there was an emergency situation that arose at the facility he was living in. He didn’t know what to do and he wasn’t alone. There were many residents who ended up staying in their rooms when the alarms were going off because they didn’t understand whether they should go into the elevator or how they could get out of the facility. The alarms were the same regardless of whether it was a smoke detector that went off or some other emergency.

This panic caused a lot of anxiety and actually led to a few injuries. The emergency situation turned out to be a false alarm, but it could’ve been much worse. In truth, though, it didn’t have to be that way at all.

Donald ended up learning about the emergency procedures at his assisted living facility because the administration focused on ensuring that everyone knew about them in the future. When you move into a new assisted living facility, you may not pay attention to what is being told to you about emergency situations at the time of your move in date, so make sure that you go back over this with a staff member at some point shortly after you settle in.
