3 Ways Assisted Living Is Safer Than Your Dad’s Home
Senior Living in Hill Country Village TX
August 22nd through the 25th is National Safe at Home Week and when you’ve been trying to convince your elderly father to at least consider assisted living, talking about safety is a great way to begin the conversation. You may have brought up the topic previously, and he may have dismissed you out of hand, but if you aren’t armed with valuable information about assisted living, you could find it much easier for him to dismiss the notion of moving.
If you’re worried about your father’s safety in that house all by himself, here are three ways assisted living is actually safer for him, at least at this point in his life.
1. The support staff are incredible.
The support staff at a quality assisted living facility are highly experienced and dedicated to helping the elderly residents with many things they require. If your father has difficulty getting out of bed safely, you could call on assistance on those mornings when he’s having difficulty due to his arthritis or other health issues.
The support staff will also pay closer attention to those who may be at certain risk with regard to their physical infirmities or challenges they face getting down the hall. They’re always ready to assist in any way they can, especially when safety is concerned.
2. Someone is always checking the facilities.
Whether it’s an outside agency or staff members at the assisted living facility inspecting the exercise room, entertainment center, individual residences, or anything else, someone is constantly checking light fixtures, replacing lights, checking the carpeting, stairs, railings, and the list goes on and on.
3. It’s easy to call for help.
If your father finally decides to move into an assisted living community, and if he ever needs assistance with something, whether it is getting out of bed, getting into or out of the shower safely, getting down the hall, or with anything else, all he needs to do is make a simple call.
There are so many elderly residents at assisted living who can also relay information to contact staff members, especially in an emergency situation.
Safety is a top priority for the better assisted living communities across the country. If you’ve been looking for a way to approach the topic with your father, safety could very well be the way to do it. If you’re concerned about his safety, he may be as well.
